A Walking Holiday around Mont Blanc in France, Italy, and Switzerland. The “Tour du Mont Blanc”, also called “TMB”, is one of the most famous and iconic walking trails through the Alps. It passes through three countries offering three diverse experiences; the Italian slopes with their large rock faces, the Swiss slopes with their soft valleys and the French glacial slopes.
The route below was selected so as to allow you to carry as little heavy equipment as possible. There is no need for a bivouac, tent, stove or pan so you can hike in comfort with just a day pack. Altitude ranges between 1164 m (Argentiere) and 2671 m (Window of Arpette). The paths are well marked in general and should not cause any trouble for hikers with a reasonable level of fitness.

Coming to Mt Arana (1111m) you can enjoy the fantastic vista of the all north and west of the island. Today is optional, but we strongly recommend that you go to see valle Gran Rey – the most beautiful place in the Canaries.
We start by walking through a remote valley, inhabited only by goats and geckos. After passing a tiny church, we go down the ravine following the GR 132 path, and up towards the Tequergenche cliffs, where the views are astonishing. Here you will have the option to walk to “Las Pilas”, a popular view point, then on to “El Hiero” and “La Palmas” (1hr30 return). For those who want to swim, you can take a zigzagging footpath straight down the cliffs with superb views of the valley on the way. Although the sand is black, the beach is a real jewel.
Then you can come back by bus or taxi to the hotel!

The views to the south are breath-taking. We then return through a network of donkey trails (still used today to carry grapes) and pass through the palms and cactus plants to several small villages. Although close to San Sebastian, this area is only accessible by foot. After a short transfer by bus, you will start to follow the ridge along the GR 132. Then there is a descent toward the valley across terraced fields, and after crossing the river we continue slightly uphill to a very well preserved but eerily abandoned hamlet. Passing the Roque Sombrero (so called because of its hat-like shape), we start a long but super descent towards a warm and green valley. The Barranco de Juan is so dramatic that it shouldn’t be missed! Finally we pass an unspoiled beach with two small fishermen’s huts before reaching our destination. The trail is exposed, so make sure you have a hat and plenty of sun cream!

One Foot Abroad are proud to offer this destination to you. This adventurous trip takes you to the highest part of the Dolomites, following rivers and lakes. After a short bus transfer to lake Landro, the ascent to one of the greatest highlights of the Dolomites can begin. It is a steady ascent of more than 1000m that will take you directly in front of the mighty Tre Cime. These 3 peaks are emblematic of the Dolomites. Today’s walk was the scene of tragic war act during WWI. You can still see the evidence of these atrocities by walking through the war tunnel of Paterno and the curious looking Sasso di Sesto. The walk leads to the pretty refuge Cengia (2528m), then down into a silent otherworldly ‘amphitheatre’. After a pleasant transfer on the open-air ski lift, this walk will take you to the very foot of the eroded rock towers of the Cinque Torri. Then, we walk around Nuvolau using either a dramatic and technical path by Ra Gusela (2574m), or an easier path by Passo Giau (2236m) before reaching Passo Falzarego (2105m). As it is not possible to ascend any higher from the Refuge Lagazuoi (2752m), today we begin by descending to 2030m . We take a right to climb steeply through scrub and past a waterfall for a relentless ascent via moderately exposed natural ledges cut into the sheer Nemesis rock point. This leads to the wondrous lunar-like Masare amphitheatre and eventually to Refuge Giussani (2600m). This challenging route begins with an exhilarating underground ascent via a remarkable tunnel hewn into the mountainside by the Italian WW1 forces. We climb a total of 647m with the help of rock steps and guiding cables fixed to the walls. The tunnel measures 1100m in length and boasts a gradient verging 45 degrees! Then we descend the Val Travenanzes, haunt of Chamois (a native species of goat-antelope) and Marmots (ground squirrels) to conclude with the impressive Fanes waterfall – its 70m drop evidently placing it as the highest waterfall in the Dolomites.

The Camino Frances / French Way is the most traditional of all the pilgrims’ ways to Santiago de Compostela and the best known internationally.

This Walking Holiday explores the 1st section of the Camino Frances / French Way. It starts in France at St-Jean-Pied-de-Port and finishes in Pamplona, the town famous for its Bull Run festival. At first it follows the ‘Route Napoleon’ over the Roncesvalles Pass (1500m), and then crosses the Basque country onto more gentle terrain.

Everyday, during the walk, you are guaranteed a high level of comfort and gastronomy. The Camino is clearly marked with the “Scallop Shell” showing you the way. This walk can be physically demanding and requires a reasonable level of fitness. However, it’s a highly rewarding walk that includes numerous cultural highlights.

Day 2 – Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port To Roncesvalles (8h, 26km, +1250m -540m).
This first day is considered the most difficult as the Camino crosses the Pyrenees. The “Camino Napoleon” kicks off with a steep climb, on through orchards and past country houses and then, later, through Alpine style meadows, before weaving its way alongside leafy beech woods towards the border and the descent into Roncesvalles. The Valcarlos Camino mainly follows the road which runs through the valley alongside the river Nive or river Valcarlos. Don’t miss the “Collegiate Church” in Roncesvalles.

NOTE: If you would like to walk at a more relaxed pace, we can split this walking day into 2 stages (12km & 14km), staying overnight in the village of Valcarlos. Here you will be staying a charming 2* hotel. We recommend taking this route during the winter months when snow can make the higher route impassable.

The Camino crosses two beautiful mountain passes and continues on through beech and oak woods and meadows before coming to Espinal, where the panoramic views of the countryside with the Pyrenees in the background are a sight to behold. The river Arga runs alongside this part of the Camino and continues its course all the way to Larrasoana.

The Camino runs along the river Arga, at the foot of a group of hills covered in beech, oak and Scots pine. As we approach Pamplona, the landscape shows the obvious influence of civilisation; with its conifers, reforestation and farmlands.
