A Walking Holiday in the Calanques in Provence, France. The Calanques stretch for twenty kilometres between Marseille and Cassis. These limestone mountains, which reach 565 meters at Mont Puget, glisten dazzlingly, much like the Mediterranean sea onto which they face.
Renowned for their beauty and charm, the Calanques consist of narrow valleys surrounded by abrupt rocky facades, dug out through the ages by rivers and now submerged entirely by the sea.
In the midst of these rocky formations, lies the small fishing port of Cassis. Here you will spend your evenings on the terrace, enjoying the area’s gastronomic treats; fresh seafood and white wine.

Walk the Corniche du JF Kennedy above the town for its wonderful views and visit the Basilique Notre Dame. Finally, don’t forget to drop into La Maison du Pastis for a tasting of the local firewater.

Then it’s uphill to “Vallon d’En-Vau” following a century-old mule trail, where you may spot some some eagles. After that you will follow the coast to the Vallon de la Gardiole, before coming back to Cassis via the famous GR93 (a well-known long-distance trail), through Garigue’s provincial bushy lands and passing Mussugui¨res Plateau, and its marvellous views.
